Cataract Evaluation

WHAT ARE CATARACTS?

Inside our eyes, we have a natural lens. The lens bends (refracts) light rays that come into the eye to help us see. The lens should be clear, like the top lens in the illustration.

If you have a cataract, your lens has become cloudy, like the bottom lens in the illustration. It is like looking through a foggy or dusty car windshield. Things look blurry, hazy or less colorful with a cataract. Additional information can be found here.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR CATARACT EVALUATION:
A cataract evaluation is just that, an appointment to determine if you have cataracts, and if they have progressed enough to warrant removing them through surgery. The evaluation will take about 2 hours and consist of diagnostic testing and measurements, dilation of the eyes, and speaking with Dr. Belani about your surgery and scheduling options. We are one of the few practices in the area that offer laser-assisted cataract surgery, as well as premium IOLs.

Prior to your evaluation appointment, please complete the Cataract Evaluation Questionnaire, as this will assist our office in providing you with the most accurate and complete care.

CATARACTS AND GLAUCOMA?
Are you planning on having cataract surgery and are currently taking 1 or more medications to lower your eye pressure? If so, you may be a candidate for an iStent implant. Click here for more information.
