Lens Options

Types of Lenses

During cataract surgery, your clouded natural lens is replaced with a clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Several types are available, each designed to match different vision goals and lifestyles.

Monofocal Lenses

The standard choice for cataract surgery. Monofocal lenses provide excellent clarity at one distance — usually far vision. Most patients still use reading glasses for up-close tasks.

Monofocal Plus Lenses

An enhanced monofocal option that extends the range of clear vision slightly beyond a standard monofocal, offering better intermediate clarity while maintaining the same reliable distance focus.

Toric Lenses

Designed specifically for patients with astigmatism. Toric lenses correct the irregular shape of the cornea, providing sharper, distortion-free vision at your chosen focal distance.

Extended Depth of Focus Lenses

EDOF lenses stretch the range of clear vision from distance through intermediate — ideal for computer work and everyday activities — with minimal visual side effects like halos or glare.

Multifocal Lenses

Premium lenses designed to provide clear vision at multiple distances — near, intermediate, and far. Multifocal lenses can significantly reduce or even eliminate the need for glasses after surgery, making them a popular choice for patients seeking the greatest freedom from corrective eyewear.

Your surgeon will discuss which lens options are best suited for your eyes, lifestyle, and vision goals during your consultation.

Preparing for Cataract Surgery

Follow these step-by-step instructions to prepare for your cataract surgery. Select a topic to read what to expect before and after your procedure.

  • Register as a patient with One Medical Passport as soon as possible. Go to www.restonsurgerycenter.com and click "Pre-Register Today!"
  • Obtain surgical clearance, including an EKG if you are over 60. This must be submitted one week prior to surgery. Otherwise, the procedure will be cancelled and you will be charged a cancellation fee.
  • Make arrangements for an adult to drive you home after surgery.
  • Review the diabetes/weight loss medication list on the right-hand side of the folder, fifth page back. If you are taking any medications on the list, you will need to hold the medication off prior to surgery, for however many days it says on the right.
